How 37 1/2 weeks at CyberTex can change your life
Both our Medical Assistant program and Network Engineer program have one thing in common—an accelerated pace that allows our students to finish in 37 ½ weeks. Why is that important? Simply put: Life is short, and for people who want to transform their lives as they can through these programs, they don’t want to meander through a three- or four-year program to get there.
Students in a four-year college—particularly students who are 18 or 19 and are still trying to determine what they want to do—can take advantage of its pace and its wide range of required classes to sample topics and discover what they like to do.
Our students are different, though. Many of them are looking to change careers or are wanting to move from what they consider to be merely a “job” to a full-fledged career. They’ve determined there’s a promising future in healthcare or IT careers, and they want to get into the job market as soon as they possibly can. They want to acquire relevant knowledge and only relevant knowledge. In other words, they’re not wanting to take classes that don’t relate to what they’re doing.
The 37 ½ week approach, for both our Medical Assistant and Network Engineer programs, is not only helpful to our students. Our faculty, in designing and teaching the curriculum, focus on what’s important in each field and creates an experience that allows students to acquire those core skills.
In the Medical Assistant program, that means helping students first master the anatomy and physiology knowledge that will be key in a variety of healthcare settings with all imaginable types of patients. The program ultimately helps students develop the skills that they’ll use on the job: taking vital signs, drawing blood for lab tests, and taking EKGs. By the end of the 37 ½ weeks, our Medical Assistants are prepared for a range of healthcare settings, including urgent care centers.
In the Network Engineer program, for aspiring IT professionals, the entire course is centered around the six certifications that employers often look for in prospective IT employees: A+, Security+, MCSA, MCTS, Linux+, and Network+. In a little more than nine months, students can develop knowledge in the building blocks that IT professionals should have on board and take the certification exams demonstrating that they have that knowledge.
For those who want to learn more and specialize, these six certifications provide an appropriate anchoring, and for those who want to get into an IT job as soon as possible, these certifications will prepare students more than sufficiently for entry-level opportunities throughout the IT job market in Central Texas and beyond.
